WAIANAE (June 18, 2007) – Tradewinds Quarter Horses, LLC, Waianae, has donated $3500 to the Hawaii Women’s Rodeo Association (HWRA) in support of the annual all-girls rodeo which spotlights some of the best cowgirls from Oahu and the Neighbor islands. Last year more than 110 contestants – many of whom shipped their horses here from the Neighbor Islands - competed for a record $10,000+ in prize money and a trophy saddle.
The 2007 Zip Memorial All-Girls Rodeo promises to be bigger than ever, with $1,500 in added prize money already donated for the Mixed Barrels event, alone.
Contestants will compete in Barrel Racing, Pole-Bending, Steer Undecorating, Team Roping, Breakaway Roping, Calf Mugging and of course, the special “mixed barrels” event that will have the state’s best men and women competing against each other in barrel racing.
This year’s rodeo commemorates one of Hawaii’s great Quarter Horse stallions who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year. Zip (AKA Diamond Jim) was a popular equine competitor on the Hawaii rodeo circuit, carrying a variety of riders to wins and buckles in barrels, poles, roping and steer undecorating.
Tickets are available now -- $7 in advance and $9 at the gate. For more information, please contact Sandy Van at (808) 696-4900 or via email: sandy@tradewindsqh.com.
